WAPD 2023 Bursary
Criteria
• Must have completed Introduction to the Union and attended at least one Chapter meeting in 2023.
• Have not used GOA email to apply for the Bursary.
• Submitted a completed application.
• Must be a local 002 member at the time of disbursement.
• Must agree too: Information collected on the application form will be used for the administration of the bursary process. Additionally, it may be used to verify your AUPE contact details.

Do I have to have Introduction to the Union Course to apply?
Yes, it is mandatory along with attendance at least one Chapter meeting in 2023. (New!)

Ensure that you sign in at Chapter meetings!
Can the bursary be used to buy for another member of the family?
No. The bursary is intended for the member only.
Can the bursary be used for food supplements?
No.
Can I submit more than one receipt?
Yes. You can upload multiple receipts. The application only allows you to upload 3 separate receipts.
How much has Local 002 budgeted for the 2023 bursary?
$80,000 up to $500 per applicant.
How are the approved items for the bursary determined?
The list of what can be approved for the WAPD bursary has been developed over time and is annually reviewed and adjusted to support the needs of Local 002 members. We understand that everyone has their own interpretation of health and wellness; however, not all activities and items can be approved. As such, the 2023 Bursary list has been finalized at the discretion of the elected WAPD committee members.
What kind of expenses can I submit?
Fitness facility fees and/or fitness equipment
Fitness and wellness instruction publications or subscriptions
Home office equipment such as a desk or chair
Personal trainer or organized fitness lessons
Sports fees and equipment
Hobby or personal interest courses
Computer, tablet, gaming console
Craft supplies
Fitbit, Apple watch
Musical instruments or lessons
Camping equipment/fees
Are services covered by Alberta Blue Cross eligible for the bursary? (dental/glasses are examples)
No.
Can I submit a receipt for cosmetics or a cosmetic procedure?
No.
Can the bursary cover college/university courses? (Credit Courses)
No. However, AUPE has other bursaries or scholarships that may cover those expenses.
Can you submit a receipt with another person’s name on it?
No.
Can I send the gym contract?
No, ask your gym to provide a statement of payments for 2023.
Can I submit a bank or credit card statement?
No, you must submit a copy of the original receipt.
Can I make the purchase in 2024?
No. The purchase must be made between January to December 2023.
How will I know if I was a successful applicant for the 2023 WAPD bursary?
You will receive an email and name posted on the website.
Do not call the AUPE resource center. They will not be able to provide you with any information. Do not contact committee members, you will be directed back to the website.
If there is an overwhelming number of applicants, the committee will use a random draw generator. Committee has the final decision and there is no appeal process.
How can I get more involved and be on the WAPD committee?
Attend your Chapter AGM and get elected as a council representative. Council reps are all volunteers!
