Bargaining Update - GSBC update #33
Enhanced mediation and Townhalls recap
We’d like to thank all of you who participated in the telephone townhalls a couple of days ago. Your continued engagement and involvement is crucial as we head into the final stage of bargaining through enhanced mediation.
As we made very clear at the townhalls, this is our last opportunity to reach a settlement on a new collective agreement. We will be working tirelessly to achieve this and have a tentative agreement for you to vote on at the end of the month. If we are not successful, we will be serving strike notice on or before September 6, and be on strike 72 hours later.
We are entering into enhanced mediation process with very experienced mediator Lyle Kanee. We will be working with the mediator August 12th, 13th, and 14th. Future dates scheduled are August 18th, 19th, 20th, August 25th, 27th, and 28th with a deadline for possible recommendations of August 29th.
In the second stage starting August 18th, the mediator will be joined by his panel which is one designate from the employer and one designated panel member from the union to assist the mediator in working through issues, concerns, and working towards making a decision on recommendations.
During this process, there will be limited information that will be able to be exchanged with members. We will report immediately upon the completion of this final phase, and, if successful bringing a tentative agreement to our members. Again, if we are not successful, we will be on strike within the first week of September.
Once again, thank you for your overwhelming attendance at the town halls. Your commitment, strength, solidarity and support for the GSBC and, most importantly, for each other continues to be inspiring and is very much recognized and appreciated.
In Solidarity
GSBC
